Semaglutide targets GLP-1 receptors in the brain, helping increase the production of insulin, which helps regulate appetite, slow stomach emptying, making you feel fuller, longer. 

Tirzepatide not only targets GLP-1 receptors, but also GIP receptors, enhancing glycemic control and weight loss even more.

Common side effects include nausea (typically only for the first few weeks or when going up in dose). This is easily combated with nausea medication, Zofran, that I can also prescribe for a small additional cost. Other side effects may include constipation or diarrhea, again, typically in the first few weeks and easily avoidable.

Semaglutide is probably the most popular weight loss medication. It is less expensive than Tirzepatide, but may not produce results as fast. 

Tirzepatide is more expensive, but typically produces faster results.

Both medications are FDA approved for weight loss. For patients with diabetes, this medication should be prescribed by your primary physician. I do not prescribe to patients with diabetes, as it requires much closer monitoring. Other contraindications include kidney disease, known or history or family history of thyroid cancer, pregnancy, or history of stomach issues such as pancreatitis or gastroparesis.

Patients on semaglutide can lose up to 15% BMI over 1 year, while patients on tirzepatide can lose up to 20% BMI in one year.

Once a telehealth visit is complete and payment is received, medication should arrive at your doorstep in approximately 5-7 days. Be sure to plan ahead when medication supply is getting low.
